CAPE TOWN (Web Desk) – A South African guy who’d the world’s first successful organ transplant last December has impregnated his girlfriend, the physician who directed the operation has told Reuters.
Dr Andre van der Merwe of Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa, said that he was told by his patient the girl is pregnant about four months.
The 22-year old guy, who hasn’t been named, is among around 250 South Africans who lose their members annually in botched circumcisions that are conventional. The guy’s first member was amputated as a lifesaving measure after serious complications originated from a circumcision performed as part of a coming of age service.
The nine-hour transplant surgery formed part of a pilot study by the University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town. The patient was active five weeks after.
His organ functionality has recovered fully and “To us it means we’re ticking most of the cartons where this man can stand and urinate generally, can have sexual intercourse,” Andre van der Merwe, who headed the surgical team said. To have kids is the last thing we needed,” he included.
His was the second organ transplant tried. The first one, in China, finished when the receiver requested it be removed and endured a serious emotional reaction.
